Il borgo di Lovere
The village of Lovere is located in the northern shore of Lake Iseo and, thanks to its rich artistic and architectural heritage, is included in the prestigious club of “The most beautiful villages in Italy” (“I Borghi più belli d’Italia”).
The heart of Lovere is Piazza Tredici Martiri, also called Piazza del Porto, which is a splendid backdrop to the economic and social life of this medieval village. The square leads to the historic center of Lovere, an oasis out of time, made up of narrow alleys and picturesque village shops, which give a sense of suspension and nostalgia. Going up the main street, there’s Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, where the clock of the old civic tower rises majestically; from here, taking one of the surrounding alleys, it’s located the Church of San Giorgio, built at the end of the 14th century on the structures of the medieval Söca tower.
Continuing through the streets, we reach the Basilica of Santa Maria in Valvendra, a historic symbol of Lovere’s prestige, built in the second half of the 1400s. Among the famous buildings, the elegant Palazzo Tadini stands out along the lake; it’s the seat of the Academ of Fine Arts, founded by Count Luigi Tadini in the nineteenth century.
Monte Isola with its 11 hamlets is the biggest lake island in Europe; it’s recognized as one of The Most Beautiful Villages in Italy. (“I borghi più belli d’Italia”). Among the little villages, Peschiera Maraglio stands out, a place inhabited almost entirely by fishermen once. Walking along the lake front, between the smell of the fresh fish, the fish nets lying in the sun and the moored ships, you can taste all the charm of Peschiera, made by little and narrow flowered alleys and stone arches.
Santuario della Madonna della Ceriola is a little church that rises in the highest part of the island e from here, immersed in bucolic surroundings, you can enjoy one of the most suggestive sight on Lake Iseo.
Monte Isola è the perfect place for walking and cycling on equipped paths surrounded by flowers and olives, with a breath-taking view, in a relaxing island out of time, because here there aren’t cars: no stress or smog! There are also lots of public parks on the lake shores.
Le Piramidi di Zone
Piramidi di Zone are placed in Zone, a small district in Marone, on the eastern shore of Sebino; it’s reachable on foot, passing through Marone. They are massive rock structures with a conical shape, generated during the last centuries thanks to the erosion water process. On the top they are protected by huge masses of stone, that preserve them from the crumbling; you can reach the pyramids walking or cycling, following an itinerary specially created to admire the beauty of this particular natural reserve immersed in the green mountains surrounded.
Le riserve naturali
In Lake Iseo region there are several natural areas, which make the whole territory a place rich in charms for nature lovers.
Riserva Naturale delle Torbiere del Sebino rises in the southern part of the lake, in Iseo district. Recognized as a “humid area of international importance”, it’s considered as a primary territory for the biodiversity in Pianura Padana area, thanks to the variety of habitats and species, aquatic and marshy, present in the environment, rare or endangered species in Lombardy and in Italy.
Valle del Freddo is placed in Solto Collina area, at an altitude between 350 and 700 meters, and it’s known as a “biotype”, established by Lombardy Region in ‘80s. The reserve in fact is characterised by a particular microclimate phenomenon which generates the growth of the typical high mountain plants, such as the edelweiss. The morphology of the land has an important role because it creates the ideal environmental conditions for this growth. In winter time, water and snow penetrate in the underground, coming in contact with the cold gravel and becoming ice; in summer, the debris keeps low the air temperature which flows inside, making it heavier and frozen and expelling it from the openings in the ground.
Gli “orridi” di Riva di Solto
On the costal street of Lake Iseo, between the villages of Riva di Solto and Castro, you can admire the suggestive “orridi”: impressive rock structures overlooking the lake.
To connect the villages, during las century a costal street is been dug in the rocks, that allows to enjoy an amazing nature’s creation, which arose million years ago.
Swimming in the blue water of the lake, you can better appreciate this natural miracle, by which the rocks seem to fall in Sebino, giving the sensation to be one with nature, which here has shown all its creative skills.
I borghi antichi di Pisogne e Iseo
Pisogne is located on the northern shore of Lake Iseo, in front of Lovere, and it’s an old mediaeval village, with the tower Torre del Vescovo placed in the historical centre, in the square Vescovo Corna Pellegrini. Passing through the narrow alleys, made by stone arches and cobblestones, you can feel a sense of tradition and simplicity, that brings you back in time.
In the villages’ streets, you can meet the church of Santa Maria della Neve, known for the fabulous frescoes by Girolamo Romanino, that represent scenes from Jesus’s life and made during the first half of sixteenth century.
Iseo, the village from which the lake takes its name, is an amazing little town built up on the ancient medieval township. The heart of Iseo is the square Piazza Garibaldi, where the first Italian monument dedicated to the “hero of the two worlds” is placed. In addition to the beautiful lakefront and the charming historical centre, there’re the Castle, of which the massive walls and four towers are undamaged; from here, it’s possible to arrive to the sanctuary Santa Maria della Neve and the church Pieve Sant’Andrea.
Le incisioni rupestri
The rock carvings are signs intentionally dug by men on rock surfaces, mostly polished by glaciers, realized to record their own life.
Valcamonica, a valley near to Lake Iseo, is one of the world most famous sources of rock carvings’ art, because it’s the richest in number of marks, the most various for topics covered and the broadest for chronology. The ancient citizens of this valley were between the maximum producers of rock carvings in Europe and they generated an incredible artistic phenomenon, that now we can admire on the slopes of the valley through almost seventy-kilometres extension. The rock carvings of the territory are encased in seven parks, like: Park of Lago Moro, Natural Reserve of rock carvings of Ceto, Cimbergo and Paspardo.
Il borgo di Bienno
Bienno is an ancient village placed in the middle of Valle Camonica, a valley near to Lake Iseo; it’s famous because it’s a member of the club “The most beautiful villages in Italy” (“I Borghi più belli d’Italia”), thanks to its beauties.
Walking through its alleys, you can touch the evidence of historical and solid culture of the work of Bienno, which was based on the iron: even now, coming in the ancient forges, it’s possible to attend the ironworking, whose secrets are been passed on from one generation to next ones.
Bienno is even known as the Village of artists, characterized by the union between the past and the present, where the historical and artistic tradition intertwines with the new art forms proposed by artists who have transformed the little town in an opencast museum.
Il Lago Moro
Lake Moro rises in Darfo Boario terme, a little town located in the centre of Valle Camonica, end more specifically in a district called Capo di Lago. It’s a small lake placed in a lock between mountains, characterized by a very dark colouring, because of the quartz-rock slopes which steeply precipitate in depth.
The whole area belongs to the Park of Lake Moro, set up by Lombardy Region; the territory is inhabited by several animal and vegetable species, who make the area really charming from a naturalistic point of view. The lake is also the ideal place for trekking lovers, who can enjoy the panorama during lots of hikes proposed in the surroundings.
Il Lago di Endine
This lake is situated in Val Cavallina, a valley placed in Orobic Alps, embedded in the high mountains of the valley.
Classified as a Park and protected, the whole area has conserved the natural environment, characterized by a dense forest made up by evergreen coniferous and by breath-taking landscapes. In fact, it’s forbidden to transit with motor boats in the green and gelid water of the lake, that in winter time is often frozen, allowing to walk or ice-skate.
In the lake area, it’s possible to carry out lots of activities, as trekking, hiking, paragliding, mountain bike and trip with pedalò.
Franciacorta is an hilly region, situated between the southern part of Lake Iseo and the city of Brescia.
The area is famous in the world for the consolidated wine production of sparkling wine, with the classic method. The production and the sale of “bollicine” is such grown in last twenty years, that it’s been awarded of the brand DOCG which publicised it in the the oenological world for the high level reached.
The area is also known for the landscapes’s beauty, characterized by numerous vineyards, located in wine streets, walkable on foot or by bike, that connect several wine cellars.
Even history is present in Franciacorta region, composed by ancient monasteries and churched, such as Monastero of San Pietro in Lamosa, located near the Natural Reserve of Torbiere.
Le piste da sci
In Lake Iseo surroundings, there are some ski slopes, easily accessible by car.
Driving to the north and passing through Valle Camonica, it’s possible to arrive to ski area of Ponte di Legno – Tonale, that claims 42 slopes, all connected to each other, in a difference in level of almost 1000 meters. lt’s one of the most appreciated ski pistes by ski lovers, with new ski lifts and a breath-taking landscape; in the area you can practice other activities, like alpine skiing, free ride, snowshoes, Nordic skiing, sleddog and snowkite.
Aprica and Corteno Golgi’s Ski Area is composed by more than 50 kilometres of ski slopes and 16 ski lifts, giving an ideal environment for families and children, but even for expert skiers and for those who are looking for adrenaline. Other sports are ice-skate, climbing, alpine skiing, as well as the opportunity to relax in the pool or in a beauty centre.
Borno Ski Area, that connects Valle Camonica to Valle di Scalve, provides with ski slopes and snowpark, an ideal place for families and expert skiers. For hikers, climbing and mountain roads are a can’t-miss emotion; there are several streets for the snowshoe walk.
Close to Lake Iseo, there’re smaller ski areas. Val Palot is placed at 1100 meters above sea level and it’s only 12 kilometres away from Pisogne. It’s an authentic piece of heaven for those who appreciate tranquillity and nature. Montecampione is the perfect location to snowboarding, carving and telemark. In close contact with nature, in addition to trekking, there’s the opportunity to practice sleddog with Siberian Husky.
Beaches on Lake Iseo
Località Bogn – Riva di Solto
This rock beach is placed at the entrance of Riva di Solto, at the end of the lake street that separates the village from the other little town of Castro.
The area is a quiet oasis of peace, enriched with the presence of “orridi”, which are impressive rock structures overlooking the lake.
The village of Riva di Solto, where there are several services, is achievable on foot, with a ten minutes walking.
Lido Perla Sebina – Sale Marasino
The beach is located in the heart of Sale Marasino, close to the comfortable services of the village.
The area provides with toilette, showers and it’s possible to rent lawn chairs; there’s also a bar.
Darsena 2.0 – Pisogne
The bathing beach is placed a few minutes’ walk from the center of Pisogne, a village on the northern shore of Lake Iseo;
it’s equipped with public toilette and a bar.
Piscine di Lovere – Lovere
This park is equipped by two internal pools and an external pool with slides, plays,
solarium and a big shaded garden with the lake access.
The beach provides with a bar-restaurant, with a lake-view terrace.
Lido Goia – Pisogne
The park is composed by a broad garden with pool, sand beach, bar-restaurant,
shaded area with tables and chairs, playing area for children with bouncy plays, beach volley camp,
showers and lawn chairs’ rent; public parking on payment out of the park and small dogs allowed.
Giardino Marilago – Sulzano
The area is equipped by an external pool with toilette, shower and lawn chairs’ rent.
There are also a restaurant and a bar.
